Nepali national cricket team Dav Whatmore has resigned from his post citing personal reasons. Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) president Chatur Bahadur Chand confirmed that coach Whatmore emailed his resignation.
Coach Whatmore said he resigned citing personal reasons for being away from his family because of Corona. ‘We received the resignation of the coach via email. He said it was difficult for him to stay away from his family because of Corona. He was gutted to resign despite his desire to work. We have not made any decision about this yet, ”said President Chand.
Chand said that the coach informed him that he’ll step down after the completion of the Oman tour. The Nepali national cricket team is currently in Oman for a two-match-friendly series against Papua New Guinea and the ICC World Cup Cricket League-2. The team reached Oman on Thursday and completed the training.
A source close to CAN said that Whatmore faced difficulties after being away from his family for a long time. His resignation will not affect his visit to Oman.
Whatmore came to Nepal only eight months ago. Under his leadership, Nepal also won the triangular series held at home defeating the Netherlands and Malaysia. There was a lot of expectation from Whatmore after the young players excelled in the series. Whatmore has decided to step down with three months left in his contract.
