T20 World Cup Qualifiers reaches center stage

Agency – In the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier B happening in Zimbabwe, hosts Zimbabwe along with United States of America (USA), Netherlands and Papua New Guinea have managed to reach the semi-finals.  

Zimbabwe and Netherlands have secured their place in semi finals as the winners of Group A and Group B respectively. Likewise, USA and Papua New Guinea qualified to the semi-finals as the runners up of Group A and B.

The first semi-final will transpire between Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea whereas USA and Netherlands will face each other in the second semi-final Both the semi-finals will be played today. The two finalists will play the T20 World Cup in Australia that will take place in October-November. USA expects to play in the World Cup for the first time by securing their place in the final of T20 World Cup Qualifiers B.

Zimbabwe and Netherlands remained unbeaten in the group stage. Even though losing the final group stage match against Hong Kong by 2 wickets, Papua New Guinea managed to secure their spot in semi finals due to net run rate. Despite having the same points (2) in the points table, Papua New Guinea’s run rate was minus 0.419 whereas Hong Kong’s run rate was minus 0.989.

In Group A, Zimbabwe beat Singapore by 111 runs, Jersey by 23 runs and USA by 46 runs to book their spot in the semi finals. USA defeated Jersey by 8 wickets and Singapore by 132 runs to be the runners up.

As of Group B, Hong Kong lost to Uganda by 2 wickets and the Netherlands by 7 wickets. Papua New Guinea lost to the Netherlands by 52 runs and defeated Uganda by 8 wickets which proved enough for them to qualify to the semis.

Points Table:
In Group A, Zimbabwe topped the table with 6 points from 3 games. USA finished second with 4 points, including 2 wins and 1 loss in 3 games. In the same group, Jersey lost 2 and won 1 and finished third and Singapore remained vanquished.

The Netherlands topped Group B with 6 points. Despite having the same points (2), Papua New Guinea finished second and Hong Kong third as of run rate. Uganda concluded their journey third with 2 points as well.
