Shambolic Batting Performance Hands Nepal Second Successive Loss

Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – A shambolic batting performance, again, has handed Nepal a big loss against hosts Hong Kong in the ongoing Quadrangular Series. Nepal were handed a nine-wicket loss by the home side, chasing a target of a mere 57 runs in 20 overs.

Nepal, who won the toss and opted to bat first, were bundled over on 56 runs in 18 overs. Only Rubina Chhetri got to the double figures for Nepal, making 25 off 30 with four fours in her innings. Nepal, who were 5-4 at one stage, were steered to a somewhat respectable total by Rubina’s innings.

Sita Rana Magar made nine runs, Roma Thapa made seven, Puja Mahato made four runs, and Sangita Rai scored two runs while Samjhana Khadka, Bindu Rawal and Kanchan Shrestha contributed one run each to the total. Skipper Indu Barma, Kajal Shrestha and Asmina Karmacharya were dismissed for ducks.

Iqra Sahar took three wickets for Hong Kong while Ruchitha Venkatesh picked up two. Betty Chan, Mariko Hill and Kary Chan took one wicket each.

Hong Kong, who had a low score to chase, got to the 57-run target in just nine overs at the loss of a wicket. Natasha Miles remained not out on 30 off 23 balls with four fours while Shanzeen Shahzad remained unbeaten at the other end on 20 off 27 with three fours. Mariko Hill, who was the only dismissed batter for Hong Kong, made five runs off four before being run out. No Nepali bowlers were able to pick up any wickets.

Nepal have been eliminated from the tournament with second successive loss. Nepal lost against Tanzania by 27 runs in their first match of the series the day before.

Nepal will take on Japan in the final round-robin match of the tournament on Saturday. Nepal will play in the third-place playoff on Sunday following today’s loss.
