Rodrygo rescues Real, Ramos marks a rare century

Brazilian duo Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior came off the bench to rescue real as Real Madrid secured first win of the season in the Champions League beating Inter Milan on Tuesday.

With Real losing a two-goal lead, Rodrygo scored off Vinicius late on to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. Real Madrid started the match in a must-win situation and the hosts took the lead through Karim Benzema after both sides exchanged early chances. Nicolo Barella struck the crossbar for the Italians and Inter failed to build on its chances early on. In the 10th minute, Martínez hit the crossbar and missed from a close range five minutes later.

Benzema put the hosts ahead after a defensive error by Inter right-back Achraf Hakimi, a former Madrid star. Hakimi’s return pass to goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was short, and Benzema intercepted the ball and rounded off the goalie to score in an open net.

Skipper Sergio Ramos piled on the pressure on Inter by doubling the lead. Ramos’ scored his 100th Madrid goal off Toni Kroos’ corner to put the hosts firmly ahead.

Inter pulled one back just two minutes later via Argentina Forward Lautaro Martinez. His shot after a tidy back-heel pass inside the area by Nicolo Barella beat Courtois on goal.

Midway into the second half, Antonio Conte’s men leveled the score 2-2 as Martinez turned provider for Ivan Perisic. Perisic controlled Martinez’s header and place the shot in between two defenders to find the far corner.

Zidane made a double change for Madrid with Vinicius and Rodrygo replacing Hazard and Asensio. Conte too threw in fresh with the introduction of former Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez and Gagliardini. But just 2 minutes after the change, Madrid’s substitutes made their mark. The game finished 3-2 as Real Madrid keeping hopes alive of qualifying for the knockout stages of the CL.

In the other match, Borussia Mönchengladbach won 6-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk to take the group lead with five points, one more than Madrid and Shakhtar. The home win lifted Madrid out of the last position in Group B while Inter went rock bottom.
