Police beat Himalayan Sherpa in sudden death to reach quarters

Kathmandu – Nepal Police Club reached the quarterfinals of the 20th Aaha Rara Gold Cup being held in Pokhara defeating Himalayan Sherpa Club in sudden death on Friday.

The match headed towards a tiebreaker as the regular time ended in a 1-1 draw and the teams were unable to score in extra time. After both teams missed a penalty during the tiebreaker, the outcome of the match was decided through sudden death.

Tirtha Bahadur Rana, Nir Kumar Rai, and Suman Subedi were on target for Police during the shoot-out. On the other hand, Himalayan Sherpa’s Ulrich Siwe missed the first penalty of his team but Tridev Gurung and Ashish Gurung brought them back in contention.

Similarly, the fourth penalty taker of Police – Kapil Dhakal – shot above the bar giving a lifeline to Himalayan Sherpa. Piston Mutamba then converted a spot-kick for Himalayan Sherpa.

Finally, Police skipper Bhola Silwal scored the for his club while Himalayan Sherpa’s captain Bishwas Shrestha also replied with a goal.

During the sudden death, Buddha Tamang scored for Police while Jeevan Gurung also converted for Himalayan Sherpa.

After that, Ram Baji scored for Police but Purna Bahadur Gurun’s attempt to score for Himalayan Sherpa was foiled by substitute goalkeeper of Police Roshan Khadka.
