Pakistan Humble Nepal With A Seven-Wicket Victory In U-19 Asia Cup Opener

Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal have suffered a seven-wicket loss against Pakistan in the first ACC U-19 Asia Cup match in Dubai. Pakistan, chasing a low target of 153 runs at the ICC Academy Oval – 2 in Dubai, got to the total in 26.2 overs at the loss of just three wickets. 

Azan Awais and Mohammad Zeeshan got Pakistan over the line with unbeaten innings of 56 and 20 runs, respectively. Awais took 62 deliveries to get to 56 with eight boundaries in his innings. Zeeshan, at the other end, played a quickfire 20 in just eight deliveries with two fours and two sixes.

Nepal made a good start to the defense with a wicket in just the third delivery of the match. Gulshan Jha trapped Shamyl Hussain with a leb-before-wicket who went back to the pavilion with a duck. His opening partner Shahzaib Khan was dismissed by Gulshan Jha on 15 off 29 by Gulshan himself.

Skipper Saad Baig was dismissed by Aakash Tripathi on 50 with five boundaries off 56 deliveries.

Gulshan Jha was the pick of the bowlers for Nepal with his two wickets for 54 runs in eight overs with one maiden in his spell. Aakash Tripathi took one other wicket that fell with eight runs given away in 1.2 overs. Aakash Chand, Subash Bhandari, Bipin Rawal, Dipesh Kandel, and skipper Dev Khanal who bowled one over, remained wicketless.

Earlier, Nepal, who were invited to bat after losing the toss, were bundled over on 152 runs in 47.2 overs. Skipper Dev Khanal and all-rounder Gulshan Jha, who have already made their senior national team debuts, faltered with a duck and a one-run innings, respectively. Nepal, who were 46-5 at one stage, were steered by Uttam Magar and Dipesh Kandel with a 68-run stand for sixth wicket. Uttam scored 51 off 76 deliveries with three fours and two sixes to his name. Dipesh Gurung made a contribution of 31 off 59 with two fours and one six in his innings.

Nepal’s top order failed to make a mark with Arjun Kumal who made 21 off 37, being the only one who reached double figures. Tilak Bhandari made seven runs off nine, Aakash Tripathi took 22 deliveries to make six runs while skipper Dev Khanal went of fora duck. Bishal Bikram KC made a one-run contribution to the total while Bipin Rawal was dismissed for a nine-ball duck. Aakash Chand made five off 23 while Subash Bhandari remained unbeaten on eight runs off 24 deliveries. 

Mohammad Zeeshan who played a quickfire innings later in the chase took six wickets for Pakistan, giving away just 19 runs in 9.2 overs. Amir Hassan took two scalps for just 15 runs, with two maidens in his 10-over spell. Ubaid Shah and Ali Asfand took one wicket each for the Pakistani side. 

Nepal will take on Afghanistan in their second group match on December 10 followed by India on December 12 to round off the group stages.
