German midfielder Mesut Ozil is set to sign a three-and-a-half-year agreement with Fenerbahce after leaving English club Arsenal.
“I am very excited because I was always a fan of Fenerbahce. My dream comes true”, he said after arriving in Turkey. The contract of Ozil was due to expire at the end of the season, but Arsenal nearly agreed to early termination.
“I’m very excited to wear the jersey of Fenerbahce. I’m very excited. With my team-mates, I hope we’ll be very good. May God bless our fans for we are always helped by them. I am very happy to be here, as I said” he added.
On Sunday, Fenerbahce publicly announced that they were in negotiations with the former German international. They told investors and Borsa Instanbul (Turkish stock exchange) of the start of negotiations with the player. On social media, the club and Ozil announced the player’s arrival late on Sunday night.
After being frozen out by manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s top earner has not played for the Gunners since March. Ozil was not registered this season in the Premier League and Europa League squads of Arsenal and has been free to speak to other clubs with his Gunners contract expiring in the summer since the beginning of January.
Ozil’s wages are not supposed to be a concern-he currently earns about £ 350,000 a week. And it is assumed that he will forego a portion of the unpaid salary on the remainder of his Arsenal deal. The club will be sponsored by part of Ozil’s overall sales deal, financed by the Exxen Media Company, based in Istanbul, which will hold some of its image rights in exchange.
