Ninth National Games will be held on time: NSC Member Secretary

Kathmandu – Member Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) Tanka Lal Ghising has pledged to conduct the Ninth National Games within the announced date.

He made such remark during the first meeting of the Ninth National Games Coordination Committee attended by member secretaries of all seven provinces, representatives of the three departmental teams and Nepal Olympic Committee members.

“The Ninth National Games will be held on pre-scheduled date. Do not doubt whether it will be held or not. I urge all of you to make preparations to orgagnise the national games successfully,” said Ghising.

“It is essential to manage infrastructure for the games. Therefore I summoned this meeting for the first time,” he added.

The meeting is expected to facilitate in preparing the agenda of the upcoming NSC board meeting. The NSC board meeting hasn’t been held since the last four years.

Member Secretary Ghising informed that the committee to prepare budget and the committee to prepare directives for the national games have already been formed. He said that initiatives are being taken to increase the prize money for national record holders as well as allowances of players.

During the meeting, representatives from the provinces demanded management of employees and repair of infrastructure. They also raised the issue of selection techniques and the right of the host province to add a few games. Other demand was to allow NRNs to compete in the event and to remove the legal hurdles.

Deputy Director General of NSC’s Training Department Himal Raj Dahal shed light on the importance of the Ninth National Games, the participating teams, number of games, number of participating players among other issues.

The meeting was attended by Province 1 Member Secretary Hansraj Wagle, Bagmati Province Member Secretary Surya Lal Bhandari, Gandaki Province Member Secretary Tej Gurung, Lumbini Province Member Secretary Jaya Prakash Bhattarai, Karnali Province Member Secretary Bishwamitra Sanjyal, Sudur Paschim Province Member Secretary Deepak Singh, Nepal Olympic Committee General Secretary Nilendra Raj Shrestha and representatives from Nepal Police, Nepalese Army and APF.

Chief of Youth and Sports Ministry’s Women and Children Department Thulobabu Dahal represented Madhes Province which is currently without a member secretary.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers had recently decided to organize the mega sporting event from June 5 to 11 in Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province.
