NEPAL SINK TO TANZANIA IN QUADRANGULAR SERIES OPENER

Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal have suffered a 27-run loss against Tanzania in the first match of the Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series in Hong Kong. Chasing a target of 116 runs, Nepal were bundled over on 88 runs in 16.5 overs.

Experienced campaigner Sita Rana Magar played a steady innings of 43 off 31 deliveries for Nepal in the chase with four sixes to her name. Skipper Indu Barma remained the only other batter to reach the double figures for Nepal with her 15-run innings off 18 deliveries with two fours. 

Nepal, who were 17-5 at one stage, were taken to a commanding score courtesy of Sita’s innings. Nepal’s three batters- Bindu Rawal, Samjhana Khadka and Rubina Chhetri were dismissed for ducks. Opener Puja Mahato made three runs, Kajal Shrestha scored nine, Asmina Karmacharya scored two, Sangita Rai made four while Suman Bist made three runs for Nepal. Khusi Dangol remained not out on no runs.  

Sophia Jerome took three wickets for Tanzania. Neema Pius took two wickets while Perice Kamunya, Aisha Mohamed and Mwanamvua Ushanga took one wicket each. 

Earlier, Tanzania, who won the toss and opted to bat first, made 115 runs at the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. 

Hudaa Omary scored the highest for Tanzania with her 25-run innings off 26 deliveries which had two boundaries. Aisha Mohamed made 21 off 21 with one four. Opeber Saum Mtae scored 16 off 25 with one four as well. Another opener and skipper Fatuma Kibasu scored 11, Monica Pascal scored 10, Pierce Kamunya scored nine while Neema Pius, Sophia Jerome and Shufaa Mohamedi made six, six and one run respectively. 

Sangita Rai took two wickets for Nepal while Puja Mahato, Rubina Chhetri and Indu Barma took one wicket each. 

In the other match of the series today, Hong Kong defeated Japan by nine wickets. Hong Kong chased down a target of 79 runs in just 10.4 overs at the loss of one wicket.

Nepal will take on Hong Kong in their second match of the series tomorrow. The other two sides- Japan and Tanzania will take on each other. The top two teams at the end of the round-robin stage will play the final on Sunday.
