By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu – Nepal Police Club, previously struggling in the relegation zone, made an impressive climb to the fourth position in the ongoing Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League.

Their recent triumph came in a hard-fought 2-1 victory against relegation-threatened Friends Club at Dasarath Stadium on Monday. Anjan Rai emerged as the star player for Police, scoring both goals, while Bikash Thapa contributed a goal for Friends.

The match witnessed Police capitalizing on set pieces, with Anjan Rai and Soujan Rai combining brilliantly twice to secure their team’s victory. Anjan quickly opened the scoring in the third minute, expertly heading the ball into the back of the net from Soujan Rai’s well-delivered free-kick.

However, Friends Club retaliated in the 20th minute when Bikash Thapa, a recent addition to the squad, tapped in the ball from Amit Tamang’s cross from the left flank.

Undeterred, Anjan restored Police’s lead in the 35th minute with another spectacular header, this time from Soujan’s corner. All three goals were scored in the first half, as neither team managed to convert their chances during the second half.

With this crucial win, Police soared to the fourth position in the league standings, amassing 31 points from 22 matches. They now trail the league leaders, API Power Church Boys United, by seven points.

Meanwhile, Friends Club continues to face the threat of relegation, currently occupying the second-to-last position with 24 points from 22 matches. They are tied on points with bottom-placed FC Khumaltar. The battle to avoid relegation remains intense for Friends Club as they aim to secure their position in the league.
