Nepal crash out of SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship

Kathmandu – Nepal’s U-19 women’s football team crashed out of the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship following a 1-0 defeat to India.

Nepal, which needed a draw in the last group-stage match to qualify for the finals, failed to progress from the league round after the defeat. The victory ensures India a place in the final of the championship underway in Bangladesh.

During Sunday’s match held at Shahid Sipahi Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka, Priyanka Devi scored the lone goal of the match in the 67th minute to oust Nepal.

Nepal secured third place in the league round with two wins, one draw and one defeat in the five-team competition. The U-19 women’s football team of Nepal collected 7 points from four matches. Nepal had played a goalless draw against Bangladesh in their opening match followed by a 6-0 rout of Sri Lanka and 4-0 win over Bhutan before losing to India 1-0.

Nepal’s defeat means the hosts Bangladesh have secured a place in the final along with India. Bangladesh had defeated India 1-0 in the league round.
