Nepal Crash Out Of SAFF U-16 Championship

By a staff reporter

Nepal have bowed out of the SAFF U-16 Championship with two straight losses. Nepal got eliminated after suffering a 1-0 loss against India in the second group match.

India scored the only goal of the match in the 33rd minute. Mohammad Arbash scored the goal. Arbash made a run inside the box and met Vishal Yadav’s cross after a series of good passes to tear the Nepali defense open and get the lead in the match.

Nepal showed an improved performance after conceding the goal but couldn’t create any clear goalscoring opportunities throughout the match.

Nepa had lost 1-0 against Bangladesh in the first group match. India have finished as the group winners and have qualified for the semifinals with six points. Bangladesh, who defeated Nepal, finished second and make the final four.

Pakistan have already gathered six points in another group and made it to the semifinals with wins against Bhutan and Maldives. Bhutan and Maldives will battle it out tonight to finish second and make it into the semifinals.

Nepal, meanwhile, have produced an underwhelming performance this time with zero goals scored in two matches. Nepal, at this age level, have had good performances in the past and stood as one of the best sides. But this squad, created with the help of ANFA U-16 League and nationwide trials, has failed to deliver according to the expectations.
