Nepal beat Avenir FC of Cameroon in third attempt

Kathmandu- Nepal’s national football team which is currently making preparation for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2023 on Tuesday defeated Avenir FC of Cameroon 4-1 in a practice match.

George Prince Karki scored a brace while Darshan Gurung and Manish Dangi scored a goal each to help Nepal defeat the visitors at Tripureshwar-based Dasharath Stadium.    

This the first time in third attempt that Nepal registered a win over the Cameroon club. Two practice matches held earlier had ended in goalless draws.

The national football team of Nepal featured new faces after 10 senior players left the training camp after an altercation with chief coach Abdullah Al Mutairi. The chief coach had called 17 new players for training following a dispute with the senior players.

Nepal is likely to visit Qatar for additional training and practice matches, where Nepal will face Afghanistan on May 25 and 29.

Nepal is drawn in Group A in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and will face Jordan, hosts Kuwait,  and Indonesia on June 8, 11 and 14 respectively.
