Kathmandu – National football team’s midfielder Bishal Rai has tied the knot with Rabina Gurung. Rai, who also plays for the A Division League champions Machhindra FC, married Gurung amid a ceremony on Friday.
Footballer Rai, who lives in Arjundhara-11 of Jhapa district, was in a relationship with Gurung of Sandakpur, Ilam, for the past two years. The couple tied the knot in accordance with the Rai tradition first and then followed the Gurung tradition for the marriage ceremony.
Rai was not present during the recent league match when Machhindra FC won the title with two matches to spare. He had gone to Jhapa for the marriage ceremony. He said that he learnt about the title win while he was returning from Jhapa.
Rai has become a member of the league winning team for the fourth consecutive time. Before winning back-to-back titles with Machhindra, he had achieved the same feat with Manang Marshyangdi Club. Besides Rai, other two footballers Sujal Shrestha and goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha also won the league title for the fourth straight time.
Rai informed that he will return back to Kathmandu to play the last match of his club during the ongoing league. Machhindra’s captain Sujal Shrestha and other footballers have reached Jhapa to attend Rai’s marriage ceremony.
