Manchester Derby: Preview and Team news

Manchester United and Manchester City lock horns in Manchester Derby this Saturday with only one point and one position separating the teams.

Both clubs have experienced a poor start to their respective campaigns. But in recent weeks they have started to climb the table and remain in touch with the leading pack with victory in this match.

No Manchester United fan would have believed that Man Utd will be playing derby while they sit on top of them in the table this season. But here they are despite their inconsistency. The loss to RB Leipzig in midweek again condemned them to Europa League football. They needed just one point from their final two matches to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Red Devils have now won a club-record nine consecutive away league games. And they have been unbeaten since January on the road. Guardiola’s men are beginning to discover the kind of quality we have become accustomed to seeing from them. They head into this derby on a five-match unbeaten run during which time they have not conceded a single goal.

In their last 15 games in all competitions, only Spurs have beaten Man City. While their victory over Fulham last weekend secured back-to-back Premier League wins for the very first time this season. There will still be questions about the away form of Man City though. They have won only once on the road since their campaign opening game.

Manchester United could again be without injured duo Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani for this one after both missed out in midweek. Luke Shaw is now fit again but may have to settle for a place on the bench for the derby. 2 fresh injuries for Manchester City as well.

Eric Garcia and Ilkay Gundogan were both forced off in midweek and they will need to be assessed ahead of kickoff this weekend. While Aguero is now fit again and already scored midweek in their CL campaign.
