Kathmandu – Khumaltar Youth Club have been promoted to the ‘A’ Division League for the first time after winning their final match of B Division on Sunday while the outcome of another match was in their favour.

Khumaltar saw off Samajik Youth Club 2-1 in the last match of the league to secure the second position in B Division League and a place in the top flight competition for the next season.

Samajik Youth Club gifted Khumaltar an own goal in the injury time to ensure their victory. The match was heading towards a 1-1 draw when Bikash Limbu scored an own goal. The victory means Khumaltar were promoted to the top flight at the expense of Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT).

Khumaltar’s skipper Sabin KC had scored a goal in the 14th minute to give an early lead to the team. However, Suresh Khatri cancelled out the lead in the 57th minute before Samajik gifted an own goal.

Khumaltar, who were registered in 2062 BS, scored 22 points from 13 matches. Samajik on the other hand were relegated after the loss.

Meanwhile, RCT played a goalless draw against Tusal Youth Club and remained in B Division.

Church Boys United have already secured top flight status after winning the B Division League earlier while Jhamshikhel Youth Club have already been relegated.

During last season, there was a provision for only the league winners to be promoted to A Division. Due to this  provision, Khumaltar couldn’t qualify for A Division after losing their last match against Satdobato Youth Club.

The club’s president Maniraj Bista said that they had set a target to secure top-flight status this season at any cost after missing the chance by a whisker during the last season.
