Dipendra’s superb batting helps Nepal beat hosts Oman

Muscat – A superb batting performance by Dipendra Singh Airee helped Nepal register a record win against hosts Oman during their four-nation T20I series opener on Friday.

Nepal defeated Oman by 6 wickets to set a new record. This is the first time Nepal defeated Oman in T20I.

Nepal met their target of 136 runs in 19.3 overs losing 4 wickets. Unbeaten Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 73 runs off 53 balls including eight boundaries and a six. Nepal were in need of nine runs from six balls in the last over. Airee scored a boundary in the first ball of the last over to help Nepal inch closer to victory. He again scored another four in a third ball from Mohammad Nadeem to ensure victory for Nepal.

This is the second half century of Airee in his T20I career. He reached the half-century milestone in 46 balls. Nepal made a bad start to the game losing openers Aasif Sheikh and Pradeep Airee in the fourth over with 22 runs on board.

Gyanendra Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee played 42-run partnership for the third wicket. Malla was run out scoring 13 runs. Airee then partnered with Aarif Sheikh to score 45 runs for the fourth wicket.

Aarif was catch out in a ball from Khabar Ali in an attempt to score big shot in a long-on. Oman’s Kalimullah took two wickets and Khabar Ali got 1.

Earlier, Oman were invited to bat first after losing the toss and made 135 runs in 20 overs losing 6 wickets. Oman’s skipper Jishan Maksud topscored for his team with 43 runs off 41 balls that  included 4 boundaries and a six. Nepal’s fast bolwer Avinash Bohora bowled out Oman’s opener Kashyap Prajapati (11) in the last ball of the third over.

Aarif Sheikh then sent Oman’s main batsman Jatinder Singh to the pavilion as he was caught out by wicketkeeper Aasif Sheikh. Nepal then started dominating the match after taking the wicket of Singh, who was cut behind with a top-edge.

Kamal Singh Airee then forced a catch out of Ayan Khan by wicketkeeper Aasif Sheikh in the third ball of the sixth over. Shohib Khan was also dismissed in a similar fashion by Sandeep Lamichhane.

Oman, who were struggling at 58-4 in the ninth over, made a recovery with a 61-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Maksud and Nadeem. Avinash had dropped a catch of Maksud in the third ball of the 18th over. Sharad Vesawkar was able to catch out Maksud in the next ball. In the last ball of the 18 over, Vesawkar managed to catch out Nasim Khusi without any runs.

Fast bowler Avinash Bohora took 3 wickets in 4 overs giving away 26 runs. Sandeep Lamichhane took one wicket in three overs giving away 17 runs. Aarif Sheikh took one wicket in one over giving away 2 runs. Likewise, Kamal Singh Airee took 1 wicket. Nepal had used seven bowler during the match.

Nepal will next face the UAE in the four-nation T20I series.
