In a list of the 20 greatest Premier League deals that the Transfer Show panel selected on a special Christmas Day program on Sky Sports News, Ronaldo came out on top.
Along with Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, and Wayne Rooney, he was one of four Manchester United players in the top 10. In August 2003, United signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon for £12m. He has won eight big trophies in six seasons at Old Trafford, including three Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Ronaldo has scored more than 750 goals, won 30 big trophies, five Ballon d’Ors and two Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year awards during a stellar career.
Thierry Henry came second. In the summer of 1999, Arsenal signed him for £ 11m from Juventus. He became Invincible for eight seasons at Highbury, won two championships, and smashed the club’s goalscoring record.
Some star names were controversially left out of the list including Manchester United defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Petr Cech was the only goalkeeper on the list. Premier League champions Liverpool are represented by Mohammed Salah (11) and Virgil van Dijk (14).
