Kathmandu – Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided not to extend the term of General Manager Raunak Malla. The one-year tenure of Cricket Manager Binod Das and General Manager Raunak Malla had expired in December 2021.
A board meeting of CAN held in Bhairahawa on Thursday decided not to extend the contract of Malla. However, CAN has renewed the contract of Binod Das for another one year period. CAN’s Acting Secretary Prashant Bikram Malla informed that the board meeting has already decided not to extend the contract of Raunak Malla.
“We had a one-year contract agreement with him and we have decided not to renew the contract. The decision was taken as his work evaluation was not satisfactory,” said Acting Secretary Malla, adding, “The work done by Binod is clear to all. His term has been extended by one year.”
CAN had appointed Dav Whatmore as the chief coach, Binod Das as the manager and Raunak Malla to the post of general manager on December 17, 2020 for a one-year period. Whatmore stepped down three months before his term expired. He had displayed some promising signs in improving the batting department.
However, Raunak Malla did not make any remarkable impact during his term. The major job of the general manager is to seek sponsorships to make CAN financially strong. However, Malla failed to find a single sponsor for Nepali cricket. He was further criticized after he failed to bring any sponsor for the PM Cup. As a result, his term was not extended.
Binod Das has also not performed up to the expectations. However, he played a crucial role in resolving the dispute between CAN and the players. Malla had been receiving a monthly salary of Rs 110,000 while Das had been getting Rs 95,000 per month.
