Bukayo Saka’s goal gave Arsenal a useful away goal in a 1-1 draw against Benfica in Europa League’s round of 32. This match took place in Rome because of travel restrictions due to COVID-19.
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should have given Arsenal the lead in a first half. He missed a close-range tap in which he used to score in normal days. First half that ended goalless as Arsenal who were dominant couldn’t capitalize good chances.
However, Benfica took the lead on 55 minutes after Pizzi converted a penalty. Foul was awarded due to a handball from Smith-Rowe. Mikel Arteta’s side looked like they could be made to pay for that miss. But Saka converted from close range.
An excellent ball from Cedric and the visitors were level within two minutes. With little attacking intent and few shots from either team of any note, both parties appeared to settle for the draw.
The return leg, in with Arsenal will be the home team, will take place in Athens on March 4.
