Gandaki Begins Providing Allowances To Its Olympians

Kathmandu (Hamro Khelkud) – The Gandaki Province Government has started to provide monthly allowances to its Olympians. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Surendra Pandey during the Olympian Reunion and Sports Meet organized by the Nepal Olympian Association in Pokhara last year.

As per the initiative, monthly allowances covering up to Asar 2081 have been disbursed in lump sum to nine Olympians from various districts of the province. The Olympians include Bhagwati Khatri, Tika Bahadur Bogati, Rishi Ram Pradhan, Gyan Bahadur Bohora, Sitaram Shahi, Rajendra Bahadur Bhandari, Narayan Bahadur Gurung, Tilakram Tharu, and Manisha Adhikari.

Chief Minister Pandey emphasized the importance of maintaining a supportive relationship between the government and athletes, and stressed that such assistance should extend beyond the duration of their sporting careers. He reiterated the government’s commitment to continuing this program in the future.

Additionally, the Gandaki state government has extended health insurance coverage to 594 players registered in the state sports council and 100 players who have represented the province in national and international competitions under the sports welfare program.

Sridhar Sharma, member secretary of the Provincial Sports Council Gandaki, highlighted various ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure, organizing competitions at the district level, and to increase youth participation in sports.
